DChais Farm @Kampung Raja

It's a beautiful sunny Sunday morning. We have got visitors from Kuala Lumpur. We brought them to visit some places, not the normal tourist spots.

1st Stop - Buy Corns

There are many stores selling cameron highlands corns. Unfortunately, many are planted in Ipoh. As such, these are not so juicy and sweet. Authentic ones can be bought from a 88 store near Kampung Raja. We bought the AAA grade ones RM2.50 for one.

2nd Stop - Buy Strawberries

Our favourite store is the one last from going back to KL through Simpang Pulai.

3rd Stop - DChais Farm

Our farm is situated on the way back to KL. There are a few types of vegetables, i.e Nai Pak, Choi Sam, Yam, Corns and Cabbage. It's a nice spot for Townkids to learn about nature. When we retire, we'd probably be opening this farm for visits. As for now, dad and mum are too occupied with the farm chores leaving no time to tend to visitors. If you do come to Cameron Highlands, do drop us a message. If we are here, we'd be happy to show you around.

The Modern Ge Tais

It's amazing some events like 'song stage' or more famously known as 'getai' that still exists in our small towns or kampung baru. I have often heard and seen ge tai on tv dramas. Me and Kimmarun boy manage to join a yearly annivesary celebration of a local temple in Kampung Raja, Cameron Highlands this weekend, witnessing the 1st live Ge tai.

Yearly Anniversary Celebration
The local community organises several events as part of the yearly annivesary celebration of Tokong Kwan tee. Some of theevents includes Cantonese opera, ge Tais and movie shows.

Good Food, Great Entertainment
People of kampung raja, young and old gathers at the local temple for a happening Saturday. According to Kimmarun boy, this is not a usual way the folks of Cameron highland spend their nights.

The temple which is normally quiet was buzzling with people. Local peddlers were busy selling satay, lok lok and some localdelicacies. Music were loud and locals were enjoying the modern ge Tais show.

The modern getai
This is no longer the olden days stage shows where performers sing the oldies. It was an eye opener for me and kimmarunboy. Performers were dressed in modernand striking outfits. Ballads from kimchi land were also being danced and sang through the night.

If you are interested, you can join this yearly event happening around end of June yearly

From Wikipedia

getai (literally song stage) (Simplified Chinese: 歌台), is a usually boisterous live stage performance held during the Ghost Festival commonly held in Singapore andMalaysia, in contrast to the generally solemn mood of the festival. However the performance is also routinely played at other Chinese festivals. The stage setup is usually composed of temporary structures and situated in the suburbs of the city in any empty field or even in parking spaces or housing estate.
